Snickerdoodles

Nothing makes your house smell better than a batch of cookies baking in the oven! And there is no better smell of Snickerdoodles, warm from the oven! Over the years, I have collected several recipes for this yummy German cookie, but I think I still like the one that is straight out of my old Betty Crocker cookbook the best.
Although they are a little labor-intensive, they are certainly worth the added effort.

The mix of cream of tarter and baking soda causes the cookies to raise very quickly during the baking process, and then deflate, leaving a crackle topping. The cinnamon-sugar mixture that they are rolled in, makes the crackle more obvious once they are baked.
I use a cookie scoop for the dough, so that they come out fairly uniform in size. As I roll the dough in the sugar and spices, they may get a little lop-sided, but that way they kind of look homemade!

Take some time today to make a batch of cookies for your family, or to give to friends. Nothing makes that Special Person smile like a homemade cookie!
